Hello loves and happy Friday
Been a month since we hang out on this platform? I missed being here though I took my leave without properly announcing it. To be fair though, I did announce it on Instagram, so if you aren’t part of our little instafam, you should be? No? Anyway, we have a lot to catch up on the gram and blog as far as hair is concerned.
Happy Friday!! It is the end of April. A quarter of the year is already gone just like that and I hope you have had a productive start of the year. If not, now is a good time to start, actually it’s the next best to start. One of my resolutions this year is to be more mindful and more self-aware and aware of the choices I make.
Happy Friday lovelies, it has been #soulfulmarch on the blog for the past almost month and I haven’t finished the list of things that I have had to say. As a content creator, there are days you get mind blocks and you can’t write. Sometimes you have nothing to write and other times you have too much to write that you don’t know where to begin. I fall under the latter category at least for the past month. The roller coaster that has been life and the multiple lessons that I have had to draw from life have left me with so much to say, I just need to figure out how to say it.
It was a Wednesday afternoon, just after a successful wash day that I decided to stretch my hair in preparation of installation of a new protective style. My method of choice was the blow-dryer which meant I would use heat on my hair for the first time in four months I was excited to be able to also do a quick length check and other natural blogger shenanigans. In fact I managed to stretch my hair with no problems, and I was pretty much okay with its not so straight look. Read More
Happy new year 2018 to you guys… So grateful for hanging out with me on here in 2017… We made many cool achievements that we will be recounting in the next post…
Its travelling season already… a few days to Valentines. I don’t know what your plan is… but chances are… someone will invite you or you will go somewhere yourself. In an ideal situation, a long term protective style is ideal for the holidays, because you can enjoy yourself without being bothered a lot about your hair. But who doesn’t want to flaunt their kinks this season?
If you are like me… you probably get panic attacks when it comes to packing because you don’t exactly know what to carry and what to leave. Initially in the first year of my journey as I mentioned in this post, hair was my weekend plot, like washing and styling. That is all we did and couldn’t do lots of social stuff because hair. I even made B to begin doing hair, so it was a corporate effort. I dreaded sleep overs because that would mean taking my washing to someone else’s house and packing was a complete nightmare. From carrying spray bottles (which I have like 3) to oils and leave in conditioners! The struggle was real.
This year however, I have mastered the art of packing light (or I am still mastering) and I would like to share with you. This is here is how our packing will look like when not in a long term protective style.
-Leave in conditioner
All the products will be in travel size package.
Just like this, your holiday is set… and you are covered. I personally will be cool with my spray bottle mix and an oil, mostly because the weather is hot and I don’t like weighing my hair down with lots of product.
As usual… like, share here or here, and subscribe to my blog so that you don’t miss a new post. Also stalk me on the gram!!
Last week I tried out a very new thing tom me!! I caked my face or as we call it, I got a face beat courtesy of Wacuka Thimba of Wacukathimbartistry which was amazing. So background to this story… I took part in #riseofthekink which is a thirty day styling feature for natural hair!! If you haven’t seen it already… Instagram is your best friend!! We were a couple of us!! And I met some amazing women while I was there like her and Mayonde. Anyway check out the feature at @amadivabeautysalon
I will highlight the makeup part just because it was a very new thing for me. I had actually been freaking out the day before. Let’s just say I am one of those very few lucky people who had their first face beat done by a professional make-up artist!! While there, I got to learn a few things about my skin…that I would have never known. Like there is something like dehydrated skin…. Imagine I have dehydrated and oily skin… I know! My stress levels just tripled. So now I am trying to learn how to deal with dehydrated skin!! I am so confused… has anyone ever dealt with that? I would really love to know… please share.
While I sat there as she got my glam on, (I hope I wasn’t too difficult) I couldn’t help but think of how I really had an imperfect canvas!! Here was I recovering from acne…I had like two bumps… and a million and one marks… and hyperpigmentation… and now dehydrated skin. Yet she didn’t seem bothered by that, like it’s okay. She just took it on and worked her way to perfection and went a notch higher to give me advice and a chat. I looked at myself on the mirror I was like woo!!
Sometimes, we are busy trying to be what we think is perfect, we end up messing ourselves… I spent all my life doing lots of stuff to eradicate my acne thinking it was the ultimate goal… in the end I dehydrated my skin!! Now I have to learn again how to hydrate my skin. I am in no way saying that we do not attempt to be good at what we do… just that we don’t frustrate ourselves to a point just because we are trying to be as good as a certain standard or like someone else. Enjoy being you!! Do your best! The best that makes you sleep well at night!!
Also… the hair is goals!! Ok bye.
